The failure of Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, has once again fueled a growing perception in the South Indian film industry—Bollywood actresses seem to bring bad luck to big-budget regional films. Despite its grand scale and star power, Game Changer managed only ₹178 crore globally, struggling to recover its production costs.
This isn’t an isolated case. Several high-profile South Indian films featuring Bollywood heroines have underperformed or failed to meet expectations. Whether it’s the mismatch in screen presence, cultural disconnect, or simply a case of unfortunate box-office timing, the pattern is hard to ignore.
With RC16, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Ram Charan is making a strategic shift. If the film avoids a Bollywood leading lady, it might just strengthen the belief that South Indian cinema flourishes best when it stays rooted in its own talent pool.
